Ms. King is Founder and CEO of Elucent Medical, a company that has developed a medical device to locate breast tumors in surgery while concurrently eliminating a painful and expensive wire localization procedure from breast cancer treatment.
Prior to Elucent, Ms. King led NeuWave Medical, a Madison, WI based start-up that developed and commercialized a device to ablate cancer tumors in liver, kidney, lung and bone. Ms. King led NeuWave Medical for seven years, successfully raising $33 M in venture capital and doubling revenue each year. NeuWave had a very successful exit, selling to JnJ Ethicon in 2016. Prior to joining the start-up world, Ms. King was a GE company officer while leading the $1.2 B Global Interventional Cardiology and Surgery business. Raised in San Francisco, CA, she is a graduate of UC Davis in Economics.
Mr. Hiltner has been developing technology for medical devices for over 15 years. After completing his PhD in solid state physics, he began his career developing novel optical characterization techniques within the telecommunications industry before transitioning back to his home state of Minnesota. His early roles included system design and software development of complex characterization systems. At ACIST Medical he helped develop a high pressure contrast injection system before leading the development of the first microcatheter and system for invasive coronary blood pressure measurement. He then led the integration and design refinement of the first high definition intravascular ultrasound system introduced to the interventional cardiology market before focusing on portfolio management and global human clinical studies.
With multiple patents and team leadership experience, Mr. Hiltner provides highly technical oversight to all aspects of the development process. Along with his PhD in Physics from Colorado State University, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Gustavus Adolphus College.
Mr. Guericke joined Elucent Medical in May 2017 as the Director of Quality and Compliance and assumed the role of Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance in May 2020. Prior to Elucent, Mr. Guericke had over 20 years of quality leadership in pharmaceutical and medical device companies. He has demonstrated success with compliance with FDA and EU notified bodies, as well as several regulatory approvals. Mr. Guericke played a crucial role in obtaining Elucent’s 510(k) clearances.
Mr. Guericke has experience working for several start-up companies serving as a subject matter expert in quality systems, compliance, design control, sterilization, and biocompatibility. Additionally, he has been the architect for and establishment of quality processes and systems for early stage medical device start-ups. Mr. Guericke is a graduate of Iowa State University in Microbiology and a veteran where he was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army.
Ms. Sands is Chief Commercial Officer for Elucent Medical joining the company in January 2017. As the Chief Commercial Officer, she will work closely with leading physicians to collaborate on development, and implement the Elucent Solution. Prior to joining the Elucent team, Ms. Sands was VP of Strategic Initiatives at NeuWave Medical; Ethicon a Johnson and Johnson family company where Ms. Sands drove physician engagement around innovative new medical products and procedures.
Ms. Sands has built extensive relationships with leading Academic institutions, and Cancer Centers through partnering with physicians. Prior to jumping into the start-up arena, Ms. Sands was employed at GE / Datex-Ohmeda for over seventeen years, where she received GE’s Woman of Distinction award for her contributions in executing new innovations across the patient care continuum. Raised in Colorado Springs, CO, she is a graduate of U of Phoenix in Healthcare Economics.
Mr. Klem has been the Director of Operations for Elucent Medical since January 2019. With broad, multi-industry career expertise in manufacturing, he has gravitated to medical devices focused on improving patient quality of life. Mr. Klem previously held the role of Director of Operations at Monteris Medical, where he successfully modernized supply-chain strategy to support the company’s unique neurosurgical market. Prior to medical device startups, he worked within the aerospace industry as Director of Quality at LifePort, Inc., a company specializing in air medical solutions. His experience across industries and departments is uniquely tailored for medical-device startup environments, lending expertise in time-to-market and lean manufacturing to maximize Elucent’s commercial success. At Elucent, Mr. Klem is responsible for manufacturing, supply chain, information technology, and customer & field service. Raised in Fairfax County, Virginia, he holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.
